Online Education for the Healthcare Industry

2 February 2010 1,398 views 48 Comments

NurseMany industries require professionals working within the industry to obtain continuing education credits. The healthcare industry is no exception. Nurses play a huge role in the healthcare industry. It is important for nurses to keep in touch with the latest medicines, medical technologies, and patient care practices. In fact, some people are suggesting that all nurses should be required to hold a bachelor’s degree in the field in order to better serve the increasing number of senior citizens needing care.

This being said, education programs for nurses are in demand. Both current and aspiring nurses are seeking flexible, excellerated programs to help them obtain the knowledge they need to better serve their patients. Online education is a great solution for these professionals.

With demand for nursing programs so high, there are more people to educate and more schedules to accommodate. Online courses provide the ability for information to reach an unlimited number of students. They also provide students the ability to engage in coursework when it is most convenient for them. This is especially helpful for nurses with unconventional work hours.

Online programs allow nurses to communicate with healthcare professionals from all over the world. This allows them to share experiences and best practices and allows them to obtain insight as to how things are done in other countries. By making it easier for nurses to continue their education they will be more likely to take advantage of opportunities and take in additional knowledge.

For once I think this is not a career that should be done online but at the classroom

    • Melissa Bower says on May 13, 2011 at 1:58 pm:

I agree to an extent – while some of the text work can be done online, it is also important to get hands on nursing experience

  4. Ash says on February 28, 2010 at 7:29 pm:

I agree with the person below. Nursing needs to be interactive, although having an online course would provide adequate, extra information.

I think that nursing needs to be more hands on than all textbook. Usually people learn more by interacting than just reading from a book.

I may become a nurse before becoming a neurologist. They are both different philosophies, but I know I will have experience and benefit in other ways in the medical field

The nursing program has become one of the most popular majors. I know it is becoming harder to get in to the program so I am glad that the online colleges are helping others to find a different approach to getting into the program.

  15. Alexis says on February 11, 2010 at 1:41 am:

My mom wanted to continue her education in nursing. she should read this!

  16. brittani says on February 11, 2010 at 12:35 am:

honestly, I’m worried about the healthcare field. There are so many nurses! There is a ridiculous waiting list to get into the nursing program at all at jjc. I feel like there might be some kind of shortage on nursing jobs in the next few years, especially if we don’t all get free healthcare.

  17. Adam says on February 10, 2010 at 11:37 am:

on-line classes would be great for anyone who has a full-time job.

Nursing is a good career i thought about it

  26. Heather says on February 7, 2010 at 6:11 pm:

I think certain online classes are great but things like Nursing I think require some hands on training. It kinda reminds me of taking Online personal fitness? Somethings shouldn’t be done online.

  27. Rebecca says on February 6, 2010 at 9:07 pm:

nursing is a serious field to go into, you really do need as much knowledge as you can get to keep on top of things. i’m sure the extra knowledge wouldn’t hurt at all either.

  28. Jasmine Brandt says on February 6, 2010 at 3:44 pm:

I am working on my Associates of Applied Science RN degree right now. There are many specialties of nursing that require a BA for certain nursing opportunities such as CRNA.
To require all nurses to obtain a BA for their RN would further increase the nurse shortage! This is not ideal to “better serve the increasing number of senior citizens needing care.”

  29. karen simpson says on February 6, 2010 at 2:14 pm:

This is a great career. Nurses have great areas that they work.
A person have to love people and this will be career.

  30. Amanda says on February 6, 2010 at 12:21 pm:

I totally disagree with this. My mother is a nurse and she knows about the shortage in nursing. They require everyones help be it diploma nurse, LPN’s, Associate degrees or BSN. Right now the problems are the schools. They have many people wanting to be nurses but they do not have teachers. Reason: colleges don’t pay nursing teachers enough! this is the reason, many applicants are still on waiting list and why there is a shortage of nursing everywhere you go.

  31. Rachel says on February 5, 2010 at 11:04 pm:

I also think that when in a nursing program, you should be doing a lot of hands on work!

  32. Tammy says on February 5, 2010 at 10:20 pm:

I think some classes on line would be helpful, however there are some classes that need to be taught in a school with the hands- on portion. But on line classes would still benefit the program.

  33. Lindsey says on February 5, 2010 at 8:34 pm:

I think that nursing definitly has to be hands on rather than all textbook. Nursing is more of a skill that is requires compassion that cannot be learned just from online classes.

  34. Maria says on February 4, 2010 at 9:41 pm:

I do agree that nurses need bachelor degree because working in such a field requires a lot of risks

  35. yanti says on February 4, 2010 at 5:52 pm:

I agree with some of the previous commentators about nursing school online. I think being a nurse require practical skills that need to be hand ons.

  36. Courtney says on February 4, 2010 at 11:35 am:

Well cosidering I am wanting to become a nurse I wouldnt mind online classes. However, I still believe we still need to do some casses at an actually school because we cant lose our people skills considering we will have to be dealing with people all the time in this profession.

  37. Romal says on February 4, 2010 at 7:36 am:

Health care industry has a great opportunity to success in ur life.

  38. phillisha says on February 4, 2010 at 12:13 am:

I think Nursing should not be online maybe the courses that aren’t helpful..but most stuff needs to be hands on.

  39. Kat says on February 3, 2010 at 4:08 pm:

I believe Nursing is a wonderful career to major in; it pays well, you help out people in need, and you gain knowledge(learn new things). I think the only bad thing about Nursing is the Long hours, and sometime you dont have a proper schedule, they give you whatever time they want, day or night…but other than that, nursing is something i might think of doing as my future career.

  40. mary says on February 2, 2010 at 11:00 pm:

  46. Garnetta Burris says on February 2, 2010 at 3:53 pm:

I totally agree with the article. I think it would be a huge asset to anyone working in the Healthcare industry to be fully knowledgeable and to receive ongoing training. This would ensure everyone is receiving the lastest and most updated training information. As we know the world is in constant change and inorder to be successful we should all strive to seek additional training.

  47. Jeffrey Herskovitz says on February 2, 2010 at 3:50 pm:

It is more way of the future happening now.
