Online Education – It Is Good For The Environment

Go GreenThese days everyone’s favorite color seems to be green. I do not mean that people are running to the Home Depot to paint their houses green or that the Gap has run out of green sweaters. Green has become synonymous with what is good for the environment. More than ever people are concerned with how environmentally friendly their cars, cleaning products and washing machines are, but do you think that anyone has ever wondered if they are getting a green education?

With the dawn of online education some people are turning to their computers as a more environmentally friendly way to earn a degree. Online degree programs allow students to get the same education that they would in a classroom, but from a distance. Not only is online education convenient, but it is also good for the environment.

One reason that people are turning to online education for a greener solution is because it cuts down on transportation. Students can do their online class work from their homes or offices so they do not have to get in their cars or jump on the bus to go to class. This cuts down on emissions and saves on gas as well.

Online education is also green because it involves less paper than classroom education. In a classroom teachers tend to print out their slides, relevant articles and course readers. When the course is over many students just take all of that paper and throw it away. With online education everything is on your computer so there is much less paper waste.
