Online Education and Cheating
A few years back we wrote the post Online Education, A Cheaters Paradise? where we examined what it meant to “earn a degree” despite the fact that many undergrads admit to cheating on online-based tests.
New technologies, according to a recent USNEWS article may limit student’s online cheating. Anti-online-cheating technology itself, keystroke pattern recognition software and webcam technology has been around for awhile, but this technology has its flaws. The proposed new technology will also use a student’s stylometry (syntax and vocabulary) combined with keystroke recognition, to create a more secure system that will scale back cheating.
