GI Bill Benefits for Online Schools
On August 1, 2009 the Post-9/11 GI Bill went into effect. This new GI Bill provides financial assistance for education and housing to service men and women with at least 90 days of service on or after September 11, 2001.
Though Veterans are eligible for up to $49,000 through the Post-9/11 GI Bill, it is hard for many to fit college into their schedule. Luckily, many online schools accept GI Bill benefits. Some of the schools that accept GI Bill benefits include American InterContinental University, Kaplan University and Devry University. Online schools are a great choice for Veterans because they are flexible. While pursuing an online degree a student can choose to take as many or as few classes at a time as he or she is comfortable with. Online degree students can attend class from anywhere and do not have to worry about making it to campus on time.
The Post-9/11 GI Bill pays students an amount equal to the tuition and mandatory fees charged by their school. The maximum amount is the equal to the in-state tuition at the most expensive public university in your state. Since online schools tend to have lower overhead costs and fewer fees a Veteran could get the most out of their GI Bill benefits by attending an online school. Additionally, students who take advantage of GI Bill benefits never have to worry about handling their tuition payments because payments are made directly to the school.
