When choosing an online school it is important to make sure that the schools you are considering are accredited. Accreditation is basically a stamp of approval saying that a school is has been investigated and the online classes and credits that you take will be nationally recognized. Usually you cannot go wrong by choosing a school that meets GAAP, Generally Accepted Accreditation Principle.

By choosing an accredited online school you are choosing a school that is legitimate. Although there are a small number of legitimate schools that are not accredited, there are a greater number of phony schools that are not accredited.Accreditation is a completely voluntary process that a school chooses to go through. So how do you know if an online school has gone through this process? Do not automatically believe a school is accredited just because they say they are. Many phony schools that churn out diplomas lie or even make up their own fake accrediting agencies. The Department of Education and Council for Higher Education Accreditation are the agencies that recognize accrediting agencies. From there there are both regional and national accrediting agencies. The school you choose to attend should be accredited by one of the recognized agencies.
